HISTORY
The Metropolitan Junior Golf Program began operations, under the name of the Galbraith Junior Golf Program, on April 17, 1993 at the Lew Galbraith Golf Golf Course driving range in Oakland, California. We received our 501C(3) (non-profit) designation in 1998.

The program was formed by a group of concerned citizens who wanted to bring the game of golf and its positive influences to the youth in the Oakland community. Their intent was to offer a safe environment for practice and play at a minimum cost to the families of the participants.

Initially, the practice sessions were held on Saturday mornings at the Galbraith driving range. When the golf course closed for renovation in 1995, the practice sessions were relocated temporarily to the Lake Chabot Golf Course, also in Oakland. In September 2003,the program resumed operations at its original site, which was renamed as Metropolitan Golf Links Course. In December 2003, the name of the program was changed to the Metropolitan Junior Golf Program to reflect the new name of the golf course.
